Free Cuba Now

To promote a peaceful transition to a Cuba that respects human rights
and political and economic freedoms

Long past time to stop giving the Castro regime the benefit of the doubt on sonic attacks and profiting off Cubans

The Castro regime has a long track record of being given the benefit of the doubt, and history has demonstrated time and time again that it does not merit it.

This is why I wrote a letter to the editor to The Washington Post that was published today highlighting the Cuban dictatorship's history of harassing "American diplomats such as: killing their pets, trying to run them down or crash into their vehicle and switching out mouthwash with urine." And demonstrated how the "Havana Syndrome" continues to be used against Cuban dissidents.

U.S. Embassy in Havana has been the target of health attacks harming diplomats.

This also has larger policy implications with ramifications for both the United States and Cubans on the island. This should be approached through a bipartisan lens.

Havana is attempting to manipulate the upcoming election this Tuesday, and attempting to shape the debate over Cuba policy. The dictatorship is howling because sanctions have been applied against government enterprises directly linked to the Cuban military. The same military that represses Cubans, and thousands of which are actively propping up the Maduro regime in Havana.

Emilio Morales, president of the Miami-based Havana Consulting Group, in The New York Times on October 28, 2020 explained how the opening up of "remittances and large-scale travel" was done without doing the "due diligence on how the remittance business was channeled to the island and inadvertently put billions of dollars a year into the hands of the Cuban military leadership that in reality never ended up in the hands of its true owners, the people of Cuba.”

The threat by Havana to shut down Western Unions across Cuba, if the military does not continue receiving its cut from the remittances sent by the Cuban diaspora for their families in the island demonstrates that the dictatorship's priority is not the wellbeing of Cubans, but fattening the pockets of their military generals.

Beyond this narrow self interest the dictatorship has shown an active hostility to Cubans abroad directly helping Cubans on the island when they bypass the dictatorship. During the summer, Rosa MarΓa PayΓ‘ Acevedo, together with CubaDecide, the Pan American Foundation for Democracy, and the City of Miami coordinated efforts for a humanitarian assistance drive to help Cubans on the island.Tons of food and urgently needed supplies were shipped to Cuba and arrived in August 2020. Three months have passed and the communist dictatorship continues to deny this aid to Cubans.

Over the past six decades too many have given the Castro regime the benefit of the doubt, and that has been and continues to be a mistake. It is time for the international community to distinguish between the dictatorship in Havana, and the millions of Cubans that are seeking to be the protagonists of their own lives in a free Cuba.  These are incompatible visions, and friends of democracy should not be siding with generals and dictators.

Voice Of The Copts

Voice of the Copts, a nonprofit organization, fights the spread of Islamic supremacy and Sharia throughout the Western world through education, advocacy and action. By drawing attention to the suffering of Coptic Christians in Egypt, it endeavors to educate the Western world as to the chilling effect of Sharia (Islamic law). Founded in 2007 by Dr. Ashraf Ramelah, Voice of the Copts focuses on three key issues: freedom of religion, cultural identity and women’s rights.

Open Letter

to

Al-Azhar Institute’s Grand Imam Ahmed Al-Tayeb

By Dr. Ashraf Ramelah

A few days ago news reports stated that you called a meeting of the Muslim Council of Elders in Cairo in order to plot a legal response against the French government over the recent issue of free speech in France that led to the murder of a French school teacher on October 16. You have accused the deceased of using “hate speech” in regard to a lesson he taught on the freedom of speech.

“Hate speech” is the term used around the world to shut down free speech by those, in particular, who wish to limit others from threatening their sinister agendas. However, in this case, “hate speech” actually fosters the agenda of jihad in that cold-blooded murder of the infidel is a justifiable reaction.

An eighteen year old Muslim man slaughtered his teacher because the teacher showed the famous picture published years ago by Charlie Hebdo, another victim of justified jihad. I have no doubt that you are deeply distraught over any words or a picture disrespecting the Islamic prophet just as the jihadist was who decapitated the school teacher. For this, you have my sincerest sympathies.

According to reports, the Muslim Council of Elders condemned “freedom of speech and expression,” calling it a slogan for a “systematic campaign” to undermine the prophet and mock Islamic sanctities. The Council has now affirmed its intention to resist this “hate speech” through legal means using the judicial system to deal with this matter.

As you seek to limit free speech in a Western nation, Al Azhar Institute, under your leadership, remains silent in Egypt and never attempts to limit violence or “hate speech” against Christians. As a Copt born in Egypt, I have never recalled your condemnation of the destruction of Coptic churches, violence against the Coptic congregation and clergy or the kidnapping of Coptic girls. Could it be so because every one of these actions can be attributed to religious Muslims practicing jihad, which is promoted by freely spoken slogans?

Thankfully, no Egyptian Muslim is ever slaughtered for the sentiments of jihad spoken freely, which you completely condone by your silence. As well, you are silent regarding the slaughtered -- the Coptic Christian -- because it is the fulfillment of that spoken word. Now, you propose an action that serves to restrict freedom in another nation on behalf of Islam and Islam alone, similar to Egypt.

Unlike Egypt, France has a secular constitution that does not include Sharia. This means that everyone’s speech is protected, not just Muslims. You seek redress in the courts of France because you have no respect for this equality. You would like Islam to have special privileges that all others do not have, as in Egypt. You are accustomed to the second amendment of the Egyptian constitution designating Sharia law as the only source of Egyptian laws.

As your Council convenes to deal with the recent tragedy in France, which requires no intervention by a religious body in a separate nation, your intentions speak loud and clear that Egyptians have little hope for the future and will remain ensnared by the authoritarian trappings of religious fundamentalism.

La Casa Futura project currently consists of one dormitory building providing help for up to 100 youths per session. Each session provides language learning, job direction, and cultural understanding. LCF is in its initial stage of development as we seek financial backers and matching funds for individual donations.
