Free Cuba Now!
2021 has been a historic year in which tens of thousands of Cubans. nonviolently demonstrated their opposition to the dictatorship in mass protests in mid-July, and the dictatorship through its violent crackdown drew the condemnation of the world. The Center for a Free Cuba (CFC) spoke out highlighting these events, revisiting the Castro regime's history of terrorism, demanding accountability of regime repressors, and coordinating international coalitions demanding multilateral sanctions against the regime. CFC continued to provide humanitarian assistance to victims of repression.
None of this would have been possible without your support.
We thank all our supporters for their generosity and their commitment to our goal of a transition to a free Cuba. We thank our readers for their continuing interest in Cuba. Your support has sustained us over the years, and it is especially meaningful today. I am writing to tell you about two exciting new opportunities.
The Internal Revenue Service is encouraging taxpayers to make charitable contributions. during the current calendar year there is an opportunity to give more and save more at the same time.
According to the IRS, "Individuals who do itemize may claim a deduction for charitable cash contributions made to qualifying charitable organizations, subject to certain limits. These limits typically range from 20% to 60% of adjusted gross income (AGI) and vary by the type of contribution and type of charitable organization. The law now permits people to apply an increased limit, up to 100% of their AGI, for qualified contributions made during calendar-year 2021."
A friend of CFC has pledged a matching gift challenge of up to $20,000. Any donation received by December 31, 2021, will be matched dollar for dollar. That means that your $100 contribution will be worth $200, and a $1,000 contribution will be matched by $2,000. The more you can give, the more your gift will help the cause of freedom for all Cubans.
The Center remains a key source of information for opinion makers on the criminal actions of the Castro Regime. The regime resents our effectiveness and denounced us in pejorative terms.
- In the last few months, CFC organized two press conferences to highlight arbitrary detentions: the first with a relative of a journalist detained in the protests, and the second with a family member who had a brother arrested, beaten, and detained for taking part in the nonviolent demonstrations.
- CFC fact checked CodePink’s ad in The New York Times with the press release “Let Cubans Live in Freedom: Setting the record straight on Code Pink falsehoods” that was picked up in both Spanish and English media.
- The Center's program officer wrote an OpEd published in El Nuevo Herald on the continuing importance of Radio MartÃ.
- CFC's executive director wrote an OpEd published in The American Spectator on Havana's unholy alliance with Middle Eastern terrorist groups, and co-authored another published in the Miami Herald on the nonviolent campaigns of Cuba’s dissident movement.
- The Center has sought to set the record straight on Cuba's history in The Wall Street Journal.
- CFC exposed the Castro regime's downplaying of Covid-19’s severity on the island in The Washington Post.
These are a few recent examples of our continuing work, calling the regime to account, and assisting its victims.
The Center continues to work with NGOs and democracies around the world. We are widely regarded as the authority on what is really happening in Cuba today.
Our work is published primarily in English and reaches influential constituencies. We also reach out to broader audiences in Spanish.
The Center has the comparative advantage of having done our advocacy work over many years and of having established credibility with a long track record of factual reporting. As a result, we have built a global network of like-minded supporters. Our board of trustees, chairman, and president remain dedicated to our mission and provide careful stewardship.
We need your help and ask for your support now at this exceptional opportunity . Please help by contributing whatever you can before December 31, 2021. We are a 501c3 organization, so your contribution is fully tax deductible.
Thank you for your continued generosity. Please donate using your Paypal or credit card here. If you prefer not to make an online contribution you may send your check to Center for a Free Cuba at 417 West Broad St., Suite 204, Falls Church, VA 22046.
Sincerely,
John Suarez
