Following the December terror attack at the Lindt Cafe in Sydney, Australia, the country’s Prime Minister Tony Abbott isn’t taking chances with terrorists, unlike our leaders who refuse to even acknowledge radical Islam is on the rise around the world. Abbott just made two bold new moves, effectively infuriating Muslims and their liberal sympathizers.
In an effort to halt extremists’ influence in Australia, Abbott is pulling the plug on welfare funds that subsidize the lives of anyone believed to be tied to terrorism. Considering that a number of Australians have fled the country for Syria to fight alongside ISIS, Abbott acknowledged that there is a definite connection between Muslim extremists abusing government goodies while living in Australia, according to the Conservative Tribune.
Stopping the undeserved financial flow to jihadists is the first part of the one-two punch to Muslims, the second half will hopefully knock them out. Abbott plans to revoke passports of people who claim dual nationality, with the intent being to prevent them from traveling overseas. Although this second part could be criticized by some who feel if Muslims want to go, let them leave and get out of the country; the larger purpose is to deter them from taking up residence in Australia in the first place. Also, if they do managed to weasel their way out, they’re going to have an impossible time bringing their terrorism back over the border if they try to return.
“For too long, we have given those who might be a threat to our country the benefit of the doubt,” Abbott clearly stated about his motive to make changes. “We will never sacrifice our freedoms in order to defend them, but we will not let our enemies exploit our decency either.”
Then came a remark that we as Americans long to hear from our leader but probably never will. “I’ve often heard Western leaders describe Islam as a ‘religion of peace’,” said Abbott, “I wish more Muslim leaders would say that more often, and mean it.”
It would be overly optimistic to think that Obama hears what Abbott has to say on the matter, let alone cares, but it would be advantageous for America if he would take note of what a real leader does in the face of evil Islam. Not one excuse was uttered from Abbott’s mouth, no tired litany of excuses for detrimental behavior — just words of power and action.
Six years ago the United States stopped fighting terrorism and started funding it instead. Our wide open borders have allowed jihadists to come on in, get comfortable, and while they’re here, taxpayers will cover their expenses so they have time to plan their next attack from within. Abbott has it right, Obama doesn’t. It’s time to do something about it, and since our current president won’t, we can only hope the next one will.
