MIAMI-DADE COUNTY COMMISSION ISSUING TUESDAY PROCLAMATION HONORING ROSA MARÍA PAYÁ
On Tuesday, February 6th at 9:00am at the Miami-Dade County Commission meeting, Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz will present Cuban pro-democracy leader Rosa María Payá Acevedo with a proclamation honoring her work as Founder and Coordinator of Cuba Decide, a movement that mobilizing the Cuban People to convene an independent, binding plebiscite to invalidate the communist constitution and spark a transition to democracy.
The County Commission will also consider a resolution backing Rosa Maria's call for the US Government, United Nations, and the Organization of American States not to recognize any succession of power that is made without free and multiparty elections that restore the self-determination of the Cuban People.
This March, the Castro regime is expected to select a new president to replace Raul Castro in a vote that is widely expected to be a sham, with no opposition candidates allowed on the ballot.
“The Cuban people deserve the right to decide their own future in a free, open, and multiparty elections, not a sham vote orchestrated by the Communist regime,” Commissioner Diaz said.
The resolution is scheduled for consideration at the Tuesday, Feb. 6 Commission meeting in the County Commission Chamber at the Stephen P. Clark Center, 111 NW 1st St. The meeting will begin at 9:00am.
About Cuba Decide
We are a movement of 60+ dissident organizations with thousands of activists mobilizing the Cuban People to become agents of change, defy the regime's succession plan, and exercise the right to choose a new democratic future.
Our tool to empower the Cuban People: Convene an independent, binding, and internationally-monitored plebiscite to invalidate the communist constitution and begin a transition to democracy. Together, we will take back our God-given human rights and self determination, and make Cuba a free and democratic society where all Cubans can thrive.
For almost 60 years the dictatorship has plagued the Cuban People with poverty, misery, violence, and repression. But in 2018, it is more vulnerable than ever. Now is the time to put an end to tyranny.
