ALERT: Cuban authorities unleash a repressive wave to cover up extrajudicial execution
Yoruba priest Alexei Mora and his wife in grave danger

August 31, 2018. On August 26thCuba Archive sent a bulletin on the extrajudicial killings of prisoners in Cuba highlighting the assassination of Alejandro Pupo Echemendía on August 9th in Placetas, Las Villas, and the second detention, on August 25th, of Alexei Mora Montalvo, one of the human rights' defenders who denounced it.

Activist Jorge Luis García, known as Antúnez, has posted regular updates on social media with details, photos, and videos of the heightening terror campaign by Cuban authorities against Pupo's family and human rights defenders in Placetas. According to Antúnez, Alexei Mora, who is a leader of the organization Free Yorubas of Cuba, had been released after 90 hours but was again arrested yesterday. He had filmed a short testimony of the terrifying tortures, threats, and inhumane conditions he had endured while imprisoned. He had also been arrested on August 10th for 90 hours.

His wife Jany Corrales del Rio, immediately put up a handmade sign in front of their home reading “I demand the release of my husband Alexei Mora Montalvo,” and “planted” herself to protest the serial arbitrary detentions and abuses of her husband. The sign was soon removed in a large police operation and today Jany’s father reported she had been taken by police to an unknown location.

The Instituto Patmos of Cuba today issued a statement in solidarity with Mora that named some of his repressors. It noted that Christian Solidarity Worldwide had reported earlier this year on the repression against Mora.

URGENT ACTION
Urge the government of Cuba to immediately release Alexei Mora and Jany Corrales and to cease repressing the family of Alejandro Pupo and human rights defenders in Placetas.
