Free Cuba Now

To promote a peaceful transition to a Cuba that respects human rights
and political and economic freedoms

Dear Friend,

We thank all our supporters for their ongoing commitment to the goal of a nonviolent transition to a free Cuba.  We also thank our readers for their interest in events related to Cuba. Your support, past and present, has sustained us over the years, and it is especially meaningful in these difficult times. That’s why I am so pleased to tell you about an exciting new opportunity for the Center for a Free Cuba (CFC).

A friend of CFC has pledged a matching gift challenge of up to $10,000. Any donation received by December 31, 2024 will be matched dollar for dollar. That means that your $100 contribution will be worth $200—and a $1,000 contribution will be worth $2000. The more you can donate, the more your gift will benefit the Center.

Your gift will help us do more of what we do well. The Center remains a key source of information for opinion makers on the ongoing criminal actions of the communist dictatorship in Cuba.

In just the last few months, the CFC provided resources for an activist to address the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on Cuba's systematic abuses during the interactive discussion on the state of human rights in Cuba. On the same day in a press conference organized by the Center held at Florida International University, Cuban victims of repression, both in person, and from the island, provided testimony, and reports submitted for Cuba's Universal Periodic Review were shared together with recommendations that the Cuban dictatorship be subjected to an international boycott, and suspended from the UN Human Rights Council.

Cuba was taken off the list of countries not cooperating in the fight against terrorism by the Biden State Department. A letter from an American victim of Cuban-sponsored terrorism to the State Department was  made public and distributed by the Center. In the letter to Secretary Antony Blinken, Joseph Connor, whose father, Frank Connor, was killed in a 1975 terrorist attack in New York City, demanded that the terrorist bomb maker that Havana was harboring be brought back to the United States to face justice.

CFC's executive director authored the OpEd “History of Cuban spying and the harm done to the U.S.” in the Miami Herald, raising awareness on the clear and present danger Cuba poses to the United States.

The Center published a statement on the situation in Venezuela that was shared with policy makers, and international human rights organizations. It expressed concern that Havana is seeking to preserve Maduro’s rule by backing his efforts to steal the recent election, and crack down on the pro-democracy movement.

These are just a handful of recent instances of our ongoing efforts to document events in Cuba and take steps to hold the dictatorship accountable.

In order to increase awareness of the crisis situation in Cuba, and its destabilizing influence abroad, the Center also continues to work with NGOs and friendly democracies around the world. We are considered the authority on what is happening in Cuba today.

Our work is published primarily in English and is directed to the most influential constituencies. We also, however, reach out to audiences in Spanish.  The Center has the comparative advantage of having done its advocacy work over many years and of having established credibility with a long track record of factual reporting. As a result, we have built a global network of like-minded supporters.  Our board of trustees, chairman, and president remain dedicated to the Center and provide careful stewardship of its work.

We need your help to continue and expand our efforts and ask for your support now so that we can take full advantage of the exceptional match opportunity . Please help by contributing whatever you can. We are a 501c3 organization, so your contribution is fully tax deductible.

We are grateful for you and your continued generous support. Please donate using your Paypal or credit card here.  If you prefer not to make an online contribution then you can mail your support to Center for a Free Cuba at 417 West Broad St. Suite 204 Falls Church, VA 22046

Sincerely,

John Suarez

P.S. If you’re ready to do more, sign our petition to expel Cuba from the UN Human Rights Council.
