(Biz Pac Review) – Representing a “name from the future,” Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker paid a visit to the set of ABC’s “This Week” to talk about his “big, bold ideas” for the country.
The likely Republican presidential contender is riding high after coming out on top of an Iowa GOP poll released Saturday and made for a ripe target for host Martha Raddatz, who was filling in for George Stephanopoulos.
Whether she was in search of her “Katie Couric moment,” or just trying to take advantage of the opportunity to shore up her liberal bona fides, Raddatz was gunning for Walker from the start.
“You talk about leadership, you talk about big, bold, fresh ideas,” Raddatz said mockingly. “What’s your big, bold, fresh idea on Syria?”
After brushing over one setback after another by President Obama in the Middle East, suddenly the media wants to talk foreign policy.
And when Walker mentioned one of those setbacks — Obama’s infamous “red line” — Raddatz wasn’t having any part of it.
“Let’s not go backward, let’s go forward,” she said with a straight face.
Walker responded by saying the United States needs to take the fight to the Islamic State militants, and that we need leadership willing to take appropriate action.
“You don’t think 2,000 airstrikes is taking it to ISIS?” Raddatz asked, in defense of actions taken by Obama — she didn’t bother to mention that ISIS has almost doubled the land it controls in Syria since those airstrikes began.
Raddatz quickly flipped the switch and brought up immigration, seemingly trying to lead Walker to say he would deport the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants currently in the country.
But Walker was up to the task, proving that he will indeed be a formidable candidate for the White House, should he enter the race.
As evident when Raddatz asked him to critique likely Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.
“We need a candidate not of the 20th century, but of the 21st century,” Walker said.
And that candidate’s name is definitely NOT Hillary Rodham Clinton.
