Washington Post: Pumpkin Spice Lattes Connected To War, Genocide, Slavery

(Breitbart) – Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Latte (PSL) is already back in stores, and in honor of the drink’s annual arrival last Tuesday, the Washington Post published a bizarre piece alerting readers of “the violent history behind your favorite Starbucks latte,” which reportedly includes “war, genocide and slavery.”
“PSL is back, and so is its connection to a centuries old genocide,” writes Gillian Brockell of the Washington Post. “Underneath those fuzzy-sweater vibes, the spices in ‘the PSL’ have a dark history.”
“It’s a story of war, genocide and slavery,” affirms Brockell.
The WaPo piece begins by briefly touching upon the history of an ingredient found in the PSL, nutmeg, which is native to the Banda Islands — today’s Indonesia — and had made the Bandanese, who traded the spices, rich during the Middle Ages.
Brockell’s history lesson then segues into the late 16th, early 17th century, to divulge European explorers arriving on the islands, which then reportedly resulted in war, slavery, and “near-extinction of the Bandanese.”
A section of the WaPo piece reads as follows:
The Dutch showed up in 1599, and everything got gruesome soon afterward. They seized the islands, built a fort and informed the Bandanese they were no longer allowed to trade with anyone else, according to historian Vincent C. Loth. The Bandanese signed contracts agreeing to the arrangement, though it is unclear if they understood what they were agreeing to, Loth wrote. They ignored the contracts anyway, continuing to trade with whomever they always had, plus a new partner on the scene — the English.
This led to a number of violent skirmishes between the Dutch and the Bandanese, Loth wrote. Then in 1621, Dutch Governor-General Jan Pieterszoon Coen led 2,000 troops on an assault on the Bandanese. Their leaders were beheaded, and the wealthy were enslaved and sent overseas. The remaining inhabitants fled into the mountains, where, over the following months, nearly all met one of three fates: They were murdered in Dutch attacks, starved to death, or jumped off cliffs in despair.
“By the end of the massacre, only about 1,000 of an estimated 15,000 Bandanese had survived,” notes the WaPo piece. “Some escaped to other islands, where their descendants still live, while others were enslaved to teach the Dutch how to cultivate nutmeg themselves.”
Then, in what many would consider a predictable turn of events — given today’s political climate and heavy emphasis on historical misfortunes — the piece goes on to associate the history of nutmeg to the United States.
“The matter was settled in 1667 when the English agreed to end its claims to the Bandas in exchange for an island the Dutch considered worthless: Manhattan,” writes Brockell, before concluding with the friendly reminder that today’s Manhattan is home to 240 Starbucks stores, which are all “peddling pumpkin-spice lattes at this very moment.”
So, the next time you find yourself enjoying your favorite fall drink, remember, you’re probably aiding the violence perpetrated against the indigenous peoples of the Banda Islands in the early 17th century.

Red Flag Insanity

Red Flag Insanity: Pro-Trump Former Marine Has Guns Confiscated To Protect Antifa Terrorists

Red flag laws mean patriots will be disarmed.
(Big League Politics) – A Trump supporter in Oregon was stripped of his firearms under the state’s red flag laws for declaring that his rights wouldn’t be trampled upon by ANTIFA terrorists who have rampaged throughout Portland during the summer.
“If ANTIFA gets to the point where they start killing us, I’m going to kill them next,” said Shane Kohfield, a 32-year-old former Marine. “I’d slaughter them and I have a detailed plan on how I would wipe out ANTIFA.”
This statement triggered the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task to revoke Kohfield’s 2nd Amendment rights and take his firearms away. In addition, they forced the former marine to spend 20 days in a veterans’ hospital as well.
Law enforcement admits that Kohfield never committed any criminal actions or charged with any crimes, but that didn’t prevent his rights from being stripped from him anyway.
The feds, who refuse to prosecute deep state cretins like James Comey but devote excessive resources to profiling and demonizing gun owners, are patting themselves on the back for targeting this veteran with pre-crime measures.
“Clearly, this latest incident shows how effective proactive policing can be in reducing the chance of violence,” retired FBI agent Michael German said. “It also makes you wonder if they’d been proactive from beginning whether all of this would have grown into the menace it has become.”
“The Portland JTTF’s role is to assess, address, and mitigate any given threat against the people of Oregon appropriately,” wrote Beth Anne Steele, a spokeswoman for the FBI’s Portland office in an email.
“Sometimes that mitigation takes the form of criminal prosecution, and sometimes it involves a holistic response, including consultation with threat assessment teams or others to divert a person before a significant violent crime occurs,” Steele added.
Kohfield, who fought two tours of duty in Iraq and suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of serving his country, felt he was responding to a domestic threat posed by ANTIFA that is being aided and abetted by Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler. He participated in a protest outside of Wheeler’s house in July.
“I was watching on the news that city of Portland did nothing to protect the people against ANTIFA,” Kohfield said. “I figured I’d show up to protect these people.”
Kohfield said he was assaulted by masked ANTIFA terrorists during a protest he attended last November, and addressed a letter to Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) warning the Congressman of a likely civil war that will break out if this violent, anti-American organization is not shut down.
The ex-marine was compliant with law enforcement, who he says he has no problems with after they took his guns while enforcing the red flag laws.
“I was told that I didn’t have a choice,” Kohfield said. “The cops were great. They were respectful and compassionate.”
He does not plan to attend any more rallies against ANTIFA or Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler, believing that the cause of de-escalating tensions is hopeless at this point.
“I have done everything I can possibly do to keep both sides from killing each other,” Kohfield said. “As long as they keep duking it out like this, it will achieve nothing.”
The only thing that will stop the violence is President Donald Trump declaring ANTIFA to be a domestic terrorist organization at the federal level, not the enforcement of unconstitutional red flag laws that render those who have defended our nation’s freedom helpless.

‘Shut Up’

911 Dispatcher Tells Arkansas Woman To ‘Shut Up’ Moments Before Her Death

(Breitbart) – A 911 dispatcher told a drowning woman to “shut up” in the moments before she died on August 24, reports said.
Audio recording of the phone call revealed that dispatcher Donna Reneau of Fort Smith, Arkansas, spoke callously to Debbie Stevens, 47, who was on a paper route in the 5800 block of Kinkead Avenue when her car was caught in a flash flood.
“Please help me; I don’t want to die!” Stevens says on the recording. “I can’t swim! I’m scared! I’m going to drown!”
Reneau replied by telling her first responders would get there when they get there. At one point, Reneau says she’s not going to die and tells her to “shut up.”

Above: Debbie Stevens, 47, pictured left was on her regular newspaper route when a flash flood swept up her car. 911 dispatcher, Donna Reneau, who was working her last shift after putting in her two weeks notice, is under fire for her “uncaring” response.
Stevens tells the dispatcher she is “scared” and asks for prayer, to which Reneau responds, “Well this will teach you, next time don’t drive in the water. I don’t see how you didn’t see it. You had to go right over it, so.”
Reports said the initial 911 call was received at 4:38 a.m., and first responders were dispatched two minutes later. They arrived at the scene at 4:53 a.m. but could not reach Stevens immediately because of the high water.
“Due to high waters, it took more than an hour from Stevens’ 911 call for first responders to make direct contact with her,” according to CBS 5 News. However, by the time they reached Stevens, she had died.
In a statement to the media, Fort Smith Chief of Police Danny Baker said he is “heartbroken” over the tragic loss of life.
“All of our first responders who attempted to save Mrs. Stevens are distraught over the outcome. For every one of us, saving lives is at the very core of who we are and why we do what we do. When we are unsuccessful, it hurts,” he concluded.
Reports said Reneau had resigned from her position two weeks prior to when the incident occurred and was on her final shift as a dispatcher.
Baker told reporters that although Reneau’s response was “calloused and uncaring at times,” she did nothing “criminally wrong” and nothing that “violated policy.”
“I completely understand the disgust and the concern that we all have. We all hope that we would get a little better response,” he said.
