Egypt: Government-linked production company presents TV drama predicting destruction of America and Israel
After new broke about this drama predicting Israel’s destruction and the breakup of America, “there was no immediate comment from the Egyptian government. The series is produced by Synergy, one of Egypt’s largest production companies, which has strong links with the government of President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi. The series airs on the ON television network, which is owned by a pro-government company.”

The decision to “strengthen ties with Hamas” bears troubling implications despite the “anti-Islamic State campaign” excuse, particularly regarding Egypt’s relations with Israel. Egypt’s strengthening of relations with Hamas suggests that Egypt is heading in a direction opposite to the one that President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi indicated when he called for Islamic reform. It is also significant to note that al-Sisi once suggested that “the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood could again play a role in public life if Egyptians wanted a return of the grouping he currently classifies as terrorist.” Hamas styles itself as the Muslim Brotherhood for Palestine.
Despite the praise that Egyptian President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi has received as a “moderate” and his efforts to destroy the Muslim Brotherhood, much about his moderation appears to be lip service. Coptic Christians have not fared much better under El-Sisi’s leadership than they did under the Brotherhood regime. According to a February 2016 report in International Business Times:
Christians continue to complain of rampant and systemic discrimination, and they are virtually shut out from the political sphere. All church construction and repairs must be approved by authorities, and Christians in rural areas have frequently been on the receiving end of violent attacks. Human rights groups say crimes against Christians regularly go unpunished.
El-Sisi appears to have mastered the gift of words, but apparently not of action.

CAIRO, Egypt — Israel’s Foreign Ministry on Sunday condemned a new Egyptian TV drama set in the year 2120 that predicts the Jewish state’s destruction, as well as the breakup of the United States.The Foreign Ministry statement said the series “is completely unacceptable especially because the two states have had a peace treaty for the past 41 years.”Israel and Egypt have worked closely on security issues since the 1979 treaty, especially near their shared border in the Sinai Peninsula, in a shared effort against Islamic jihadists. However, public opinion in Egypt has remained largely against normalized relations with Israel.The Egyptian series “El-Nehaya” — Arabic for “The End” — is about a computer engineer living in a dystopian future dominated by cyborg clones. It is one of the many dramas and soap operas that air each night during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which began last week.n the first episode, a teacher tells a class of students about “the war to liberate Jerusalem,” which he says occurred less that 100 years after Israel’s founding in 1948. The teacher says Jews in Israel “ran away and returned to their countries of origin” in Europe. He made no mention of what happened to Jews in Israel whose families came from other Middle Eastern countries — roughly half the Jewish population — or Jews whose ancestors had lived in Israel for generations.A holographic map of a divided US is also shown, with the teacher saying that “America was the central supporter of the Zionist state.”
There was no immediate comment from the Egyptian government. A culture of violence, the foundational text of which commands men to beat women from whom they “fear disobedience” (Qur’an 4:34), is going to give rise to this sort of thing, just as that same foundational text’s calls for violence against unbelievers (2:191, 4:89, 9:5, 9:29, 47:4, etc.) are going to give rise to jihad violence.
And as for the murder, there is an unfortunate prevalence in many areas of the Islamic world of the idea that a man is justified under certain circumstances in killing his wife. Muslims commit 91 percent of honor killings worldwide. The Palestinian Authority gives pardons or suspended sentences for honor murders. Iraqi women have asked for tougher sentences for Islamic honor murderers, who get off lightly now. Syria in 2009 scrapped a law limiting the length of sentences for honor killings, but “the new law says a man can still benefit from extenuating circumstances in crimes of passion or honour ‘provided he serves a prison term of no less than two years in the case of killing.’” And in 2003 the Jordanian Parliament voted down on Islamic grounds a provision designed to stiffen penalties for honor killings. Al-Jazeera reported that “Islamists and conservatives said the laws violated religious traditions and would destroy families and values.”
Until the encouragement Islamic law gives to honor killing is acknowledged and confronted, more women will suffer.

A Pakistani man, aged 39, who brutally abused his Danish wife for decade before murdering her in 2018, was sentenced to detention and deportation last week by a court in Roskilde.Kamran Khan was sentenced last Friday after being convicted of beating his 34-year-wife Aya Bonde Jensen – an ex-beauty queen – to death in their home in Osted, south of Roskilde, in October of 2018.The 39-year-old Pakistani was found guilty of subjecting his wife to “severe violence, incarceration, surveillance, and humiliation” for ten years leading up to her death. Khan is also convicted of systematic, crude and brutal abuse of his three children, Danish tabloid Ekstra Bladet reports.Jenson, an ethnic Dane from Falster who had previously been crowned Miss Teen in a local beauty pageant when she was 16, had previously dreamed of a modeling career, but her life changed in 2002 when she married Pakistani Kamran Khan, a man whom she had met in high school.When she was just 17-years-old, Jenson converted to Islam and had an Islamic marriage with Khan who was five years older. After this her life changed drastically. Jenson dropped out of high school to become a housewife, and the short blouses she had previously worn were replaced with Islamic fundamentalist garb. Khan also forced her to break contact with her mother.During the trial, the prosecuting attorney Rune Rydik noted that Jenson was in a “helpless state” when she was finally murdered by Khan in 2018. Rydik also pointed out that the couple’s three children were often forced to witness the violence and humiliation that their mother was subjected to for years….
