Human Rights Violations in Cuba
Jennifer Hernandez*

Since the Obama Administration began secret negotiations with the Castro regime in 2013, there have been over 13,000 political arrests in the island.
The Cuban Commission for Human Rights and Reconciliation (CCHR) recently released its data of documented and confirmed political arrests for the year 2014. It is suspected, however, that there are more that remain unknown.
In 2014, there were 8,899 short term political arrests in Cuba recorded by the CCHR. That is more than quadruple the amount of arrests in 2010 (2,074) and close to a 40% increase from 2013 (6,424).
With the current publication, detailing arrests during October – December 2014, ICCAS initiates a quarterly report on Human Rights Violations in the island. We will publish this report every three months.
Please see attachment for the October-December 2014 report.
