Carly Fiorina Doubles Down On Trump’s Debate Boycott
(Conservative Tribune) – Republican candidates are making this campaign year more interesting than usual as the Iowa caucus looms just days away. Most of that interest comes from front-runner Donald Trump, who announced earlier this week he would not attend Fox News’ GOP debate Thursday night but hold his own event to benefit veterans.
Trump’s decision to hold a competing event will no doubt have an impact on Fox’s debate — and that has left his rivals looking to up the ante.
Candidate Carly Fiorina posted to her Twitter account Wednesday night that her campaign will donate $2 million to veterans’ causes if Trump agreed to a debate with her Thursday at Drake University. She did not include any other specifics.
The post was made after Fiorina spoke at an event in Oskaloosa, Iowa, where she claimed Trump’s tactics would not change the system, even should he be elected president.
While Fiorina has slipped in the polls, she gained a decent amount of attention during her past debate performances in the fall.
Just hours before Fiorina’s post, the super political action committees supporting Sen.Ted Cruz offered $1.5 million to veterans charities if Trump agreed to a one-on-one debate with Cruz before the Iowa caucus. At this debate, the candidates could choose their own moderators and even open up the floor to questions from audience members.
It looks like Fiorina and Cruz are raising the stakes days before the Iowa caucus, making one thing clear: They do not want to let Trump get away from participating in another debate in Iowa before the caucus.
The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to Fiorina’s request.
