Fox Host SLAMS Obma Aide: ‘What About the Constitution?’
‘Whatever happened to Article One,’ the rights of lawmakers?
(Mediaite) – Chris Wallace faced off with White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough this morning over President Obama‘s use of executive actions to go around Congress on various different issues. He asked, “Whatever happened to Article I of the Constitution that says ‘all legislative powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States’?”
McDonough first answered by basically taking a victory lap, touting how this time last year the White House was being asked if Obama’s just “done” for the rest of his term.
Wallace again pressed him on Obama not doing “what the Constitution says.” McDonough defended the repeated invocation of executive orders, said they’re not “self-executing powers,” and argued that the gun control executive action was just about better enforcing laws already on the books.
Wallace brought up the possibility that despite being rejected by Congress multiple times, Obama may still act unilaterally and close Gitmo. McDonough said the president’s been perfectly willing to work with Congress before making a final determination of his own.
