Trump To Obama: You Issue Executive Actions Because You Can’t Do THIS
(Conservative Tribune) – GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump said on Friday that President Barack Obama is weak — not in so many words, but he admonished Obama on his executive actions on gun control, saying he relied on those actions because he does not know how to make deals with political opponents.
“Washington right now is in total gridlock, we have a president who wants to kill the Second Amendment,” Trump said at a rally in Rock Hill, South Carolina, according to The Hill.
“And frankly, you can’t do that with an executive order,” he continued. “You’re supposed to sit down with the Democrats and the Republicans and the liberals and the conservatives and everybody else, and you’re supposed to hammer out deals.”
Trump, an elite businessman himself, compared his experience to the president’s. Trump believes the ability to negotiate political agreements should be a prerequisite for being president, and this is something he is very equipped to do.
“Maybe you can’t do it,” he quipped, targeting President Obama. “My whole life is making deals.”
“But what you shouldn’t be doing is saying ‘You know what? I’ll never be able to get anything done, so I’m just gonna sign this little piece of paper, let them sue me, and let them work it out over the next five years when someone else is on the golf course,’” he argued.
On the subject of the Second Amendment, Trump told his supporters that their constitutional rights under a Trump presidency would be “totally protected.”
Of course, deal-making usually means compromise, which is probably not something many of Trump’s current supporters prefer to think much about, given the candidate’s less-than-conservative views on topics like abortion, health care and eminent domain.
