Ramadan in India: Muslims brutally murder poor Hindu vegetable vendor over a minor dent on their car

Days after the revelation of the case of the gang-rape and murder of a 10-year-old mentally challenged girl by her elder brother Zeeshan Ali and his three friends Shajid Ali (19), Amjad Ali (19), and Wajid Ali (20), another shocker comes from the northeastern Indian state, Assam.  A poor vegetable vendor, Sanatan Deka was mercilessly assaulted by Faizul Ali and his friends in broad daylight, and finally succumbed to his injuries. The gruesome incident of mob lynching took place in Manahkuchi near Hajo in Assam’s Kampur district on Sunday, May 24.
A resident of Tetelia village, the deceased vegetable vendor was originally a labourer working in a local factory that was shut down due to the Covid-19 lockdown, prompting Sanatan Deka to take to selling vegetables in the interim in order to make up for the financial crisis. He would sell vegetables through the area on his bicycle.
According to local news platforms, a squabble broke when Deka’s bicycle accidentally collided with another vehicle in Monahkuchi village near Hajo town while he was on his way back home. Faizul Ali and Lajlil Ali, who were driving the vehicle, blamed the poor vendor for the minor dent caused to their car. Infuriated also by the very fact that he was selling vegetables in that area, as the altercation escalated they started beating Sanatan Deka, and then called three more individuals, Firzahan Ali, Shabir Ali, and Yusub Ali to come to the spot and join them in beating Deka.
The culprits then fled the spot before police arrived. Locals who had gathered at the site rushed Das to a local hospital, but he was fatally injured by the thrashing and succumbed to his injuries within an hour of reaching the hospital.
While Kamrup Police registered the case following the incident, the Hajo police station started a manhunt and caught two of the accused by Sunday night. G P Singh, who is the Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order) for the Assam Police, took to Twitter on May 26 to apprise the locals of the latest development in the case and arrest of the two accused.
“The two prime accused of the Sanatan Deka murder case of Hajo (Kamrup) – 1) Faizur Hoque @ Dali, 2) Eyusuf Uddin Ahmed, have been apprehended in connection with Hajo PS case no. 480/2020 u/s 120(B)/302 IPC @assampolice,” he tweeted.
The other three are reportedly on the loose, but the search for them is underway. It is said that the prime culprit Faizul Ali’s brother is an influential leader of the political party, Asom Gana Parishad.
Lately, the Indian state of Assam is proving itself to be the hub of anti-social elements from a particular community who are repeatedly tormenting the vulnerable and economically challenged Hindus in the area. Earlier this month, Jahnobi Gogoi of Nazira, Assam was threatened by Muslim neighbours for watching television during the Islamic holy month of Ramdan.
It is surprising that such incidents are being reported from Assam, which is governed by the right-wing party, the BJP, which, as per the mainstream media, is a notoriously anti-Muslim party and crusader for the Hindus in the country.
