CSI NEWS The National Endowment for the Humanities, a prestigious national organization in Washington, D.C., has awarded the Cuban Studies Institute a grant to expand its database “Cubans in Florida,” into a comprehensive interactive database “Cubans in America.” The new database, accessible thru the Internet, will include information on the most prominent Cuban-Americans in business, art, sport, government, education, etc. Brief biographies will be included together with information about the history, successes, and challenges of the Cuban migration, to the U.S. In addition, the database will include videos of the various migrations; Freedom flights, Mariel, Balseros and Pedro Pan, as well as information on key Cuban-American organizations. Cuban music and recipes of Cuban popular food will also be featured. This database will be a worldwide resource and point of reference as an active ever-expanding webpage of relevant information on the growth and development of Cuban-Americans in the U.S. The “Cubans in America” database should be completed by 2021 and launched on the internet soon thereafter.
