Illegal Immigrant Confronts Ryan: ‘Why Do You Want to Deport Me?’
(Newsmax) – Camera-toting immigration protesters crowded around Rep. Paul Ryan on Wednesday at a book-signing in Colorado – making him the latest GOP lawmaker to be confronted by activists this month.
Greisa Martinez, a national organizer with United We Dream, and three others bought books and waited in line – loudly hitting the Wisconsin Republican with questions when they got to the front of the crowd, Roll Call reports.
“I do not understand why you want to deport me and my mother,” she said. “Why didn’t your party pass immigration reform when you had the opportunity?”
“I am DACA-mented and I am here to stay,” she declared, while another protester unrolled a banner.
Ryan, pushing his book ”The Way Forward,” at a local Barnes & Noble, told Martinez he wasn’t taking questions, and then ducked into another room until police escorted the activists out of the store.
But while he was holed away, Martinez kept knocking on the door to the room where he’d retreated, Roll Call reported.
“I didn’t get it in Texas; I didn’t get it in Oklahoma,” Ryan told Roll Call. “In Florida, you’ve got huge governor’s race there, so I see it where there is a lot of agitated political activity.”
Activists ambushed Republicans in two other recent instances.
Earlier this week, Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio was confronted by members of United We Dream during a fundraiser in Anderson, S.C.
And earlier this month in Iowa, Republican Rep. Steve King and Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul were ambushed at a fundraising event.
