The uproar created by university students in Georgia who desecrated the American flag by walking on it is just one incident of anti-Americanism sprouting up on campuses nationwide.
(One News Now) – Students at the University of California wanted to ban the flag from the student government offices. More recently, drunken frat members in Florida spat on disabled veterans and urinated on flags. Patrick Coyle of the Young America’s Foundation says the nation’s schools aren’t teaching American exceptionalism any longer.
“The New York Times last month had a story on this, in fact, and it was discovered that only about 18 percent of young people – likes ages 18 to 22 – believe this country is an exceptional nation,” he explains to OneNewsNow.
In addition to schools failing to instill patriotism in students, the YAF vice president thinks the current resident of the White House can share the blame as well.
“Barack Obama is going out on college campuses one out of every nine days to speak to students [and push] his agenda,” he points out. “He’s going on programs and media outlets that conservatives might turn their noses up at, but those are the outlets that students watch.”
Coyle contends the conservative movement needs to be more proactive in reaching out to students to counter what liberals are preaching. With enough focus, he believes the situation can be turned around.
