In Islamic law, this misogyny is institutional and legal: “According to Sharia Law, a man can divorce his wife if he says ‘talaq’ to her three times.” This treatment of women like commodities is a central element of the law and culture that Obama and other Western authorities demand that we respect.

“UP Shocker: Wife gangraped, husband sends ‘talaq’ through SMS,” OneIndia.com, November 28, 2015 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):
She was gangraped, she was shattered, she expected support and comfort from her husband. Alas! she received ‘talaq’. Her husband did not bother to call her, rather sent three ‘talaq’ SMSes.
25-year-old Nasreen (name changed) was married to Salim (name changed) for last five years. Salim works as a construction worker in Dubai and Nasreen used to stay with her in-laws and son in Uttar Pradesh.
Nasreen was happy but her life was shattered when she was gangraped by her neighbours. She could not get any support and sympathy from her in-laws.
However, she was confident that her husband would understand her feelings. She told everything to her husband and received ‘talaq’ in return.
Nasreen, who currently stays with her parents, was quoted as saying, “When I read the message I went numb. I couldn’t believe what I had read. Just three words; talaq, talaq, talaq.”
“I felt violated. I thought that he would stand by my side through this, to help me through the pain of it. But I was wrong. He took the easiest way out like a coward and divorced me,” said Nasreen who now is not allowed to meet her son.
According to Sharia Law, a man can divorce his wife if he says ‘talaq’ to her three times. A media report quoted Zakia Soman, co-founder of the Indian Muslim Women’s Movement (BMMA) as saying, “Men are misusing technology to make women more vulnerable in society.”
