Trump: US Is ‘Not Exactly Loved By Many Muslims’
(Newsmax) – The United States is “not exactly loved by many Muslims,” Donald Trump said Monday, while refusing to budge on his claims that there were celebrations going on in New Jersey and around the world in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.
“I’m not saying everybody, but there’s a large percentage of people that went wild and were celebrating all over the world,” Trump said during an extensive interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” program.
“I think people have to recognize it. There were a large number of people who celebrated the downing of the World Trade Center.”
And that cheering is continuing even now, he said, pointing out that there were Muslims doing chants during a soccer game in Turkey after the Nov. 13 attacks in Paris, and it wasn’t just “a few people”
“A lot of people at that soccer game were going wild with their chanting,” said Trump. “Everybody was very embarrassed. We’re not talking about a few people.”
Show host Joe Scarborough pointed out that there candlelight vigils and prayer services held in “every Muslim government in the world other than the Palestinians” after the 9/11 attacks. Trump said he’s “not saying everybody” when it comes to Muslims, and told the program he has several friends of that faith.
Even though the 9/11 attacks were over 14 years ago, Trump said he’s still talking about the matter because “you have to know the problems,” and because President Barack Obama “won’t even mention the term or the name. I don’t know what his problem is.”
And without discussing the problem, there won’t be any solutions, and “it’s not politically correct to admit what the problem is.”
At the same time, he told co-host Mika Brzezinski, “We have some very radical people who want to do great harm to you and to Joe and everybody in your panel and to me and to this country and the world. Now, we can say this doesn’t exist and everybody will be very happy, but it does exist.”
However, he said there are many Muslims who are “wonderful people . . . I know so many of them.”
And of the Muslims he knows, Trump says they agree with him, that there is a “radical group of people who are doing great harm and doing great harm to them,” but “there’s a level of hatred within a certain community, the Muslim community. There’s a level of hatred people don’t want to talk about.”
Even if there is only a small percentage of Muslims wishing harm on Americans, though, it’s “a lot when you’re talking about the kind of destruction they want to do.”
Also on the program, Trump spoke about the climate change summit going on in Paris, ridiculing Obama for his statements calling the issue the most pressing problem in the world.
“When we have large groups of people that want to blow up parts of our cities and destroy our country and kill our people, he’s worried about global warming,” said Trump. “It’s one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen.”
But still, he said he receives many environmental awards, and agreed that everyone wants clean air and “beautiful, clean water.’
“We’re practically not allowed to use coal anymore,” said Trump. “What do we do with it? We ship it to China and they spew it in the air. They’re putting out their coal and it’s unbelievable what they’re spewing into the air. We have a planet and it’s a certain size. Whether it’s us putting it into the air or China, when you get up that high, it’s all the same thing.”
