Student Drops 1-Sentence Truth Bomb, Shuts Up Principal Who Canceled “Too White” Elections
(Conservative Tribune) – A school in San Francisco caused controversy after the principal withheld student council election results because they weren’t “diverse” enough.
KRON reported that the student body was outraged. Students felt Everett Middle School Principal Lena Van Haren stalled making the winners public because she doesn’t like the results, not because she is trying to teach about diversity.
One student in particular spoke up, and destroyed the principal’s argument in one amazing sentence.
“The whole school voted for those people, so it is not like people rigged the game, but in a way, now it is kinda being rigged,” said student and candidate Sebastian Kaplan.
“I feel like it is disrespectful to all the people who were running,” Kaplan added.
No kidding. Not to mention the voters.
The principal withheld the election results because she claimed that they didn’t represent the diversity of the school. About 80 percent of the student body are students of color, and 20 percent are white.
“The organizers are saying things like, ‘we want everyone’s voice to be heard,’ but in truth, the voters’ voices are not being heard,” Kaplan said before the results were released. “Most kids are in agreement that the results need to come out because kids worked really hard on it.”
The student revolt paid off when it forced Van Haren to release the results on Monday.
According to SFGate.com, White, Asian and mixed-race students took the top four spots. There were no non-native English speakers among the winners either, though they make up about a third of the student population.
“Everett Middle School is honoring the results of the Associated Student Body elections. This is our first student council at Everett Middle School in recent history and we started up a student council because we want our students to have several ways to develop their leadership skills and be a part of shaping our school,” Van Haren said in a statement.
“I wanted to have a conversation with all of the candidates and ask for their ideas to make sure that all voices and groups are represented in our ASB. In retrospect, I understand how this decision to pause created concerns. Today I visited classrooms to announce the winners of the elections,” the statement continued.
I guess Principal Van Haren’s attempt at social engineering didn’t go as well as she planned. Maybe next time she’ll think twice before she tries to interfere with democracy.
