(Conservative Tribune) – Following the announcement earlier this week that a criminal battery charge had been filed against Donald Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, the media and anti-Trumpers have been stirring the pot over the weeks-old incident in which Lewandowski is alleged to have roughly grabbed the arm of former Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields after a Trump news conference.
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Trump’s one-time rival in the presidential campaign, discussed the topic on the radio Thursday with Fox News host Brian Kilmeade — and offered a ringing defense for the campaign manager.
Kilmeade began the segment by stating that Lewandowski had been arrested, when he was abruptly cut off by Huckabee proclaiming, “Whoa, whoa, whoa, he was not arrested.”
“That has been said, he was not arrested,” Huckabee continued. “He was charged and he walked himself in. There was no ‘arrest,’ no perp walk, no handcuffs, no mugshot.”
Listen to the interview here. The Lewandowski discussion starts about 20 seconds in.
“I mean, it’s been presented as if he did some violent act. I’ve watched that video as probably you have, almost as much as I’ve watched the Zapruder film, and I’ve watched it frame by frame to see, OK, when did he grab her,” he said.
“I’ve been in so many of those identical type situations where you’re walking through the room and whether it’s the press gaggle or in any campaign event and there are people bumping into you and touching you and people grabbing you and swirling you around to take a selfie…”
Then it was Kilmeade’s turn to interrupt his guest, saying, “You know what, governor, I know, but you can’t just put your hands on people.”
“I don’t think it’s that big of a deal, but the woman’s bruised, and as people have brought up to me, if you got called to a domestic dispute and the woman says my husband grabbed me look at these bruises they’re bringing the husband in,” Kilmeade added.
“I get that, here’s the thing,” Huckabee replied. “When you watch the video, do you see her twirling around, do you see her reacting, lifting her arm in anyway reacting, indicating in any way that she—”
Kilmeade interrupted once again, stating, “Well, I hear her voice turn around and go ‘who was that, was that Corey?’ And the Washington Post reporter said ‘yeah.’ So bottom line is, I’m gonna list it as a controversial situation, we can agree on that.”
“OK,” said Huckabee, agreeing to disagree as the two men moved on to another topic.
While everyone seems to be trying to paint Lewandowski as some out-of-control, raging maniac that is a violent danger to everyone around him, particularly the media, Mike Huckabee took the time to set the record straight on what really happened, exposing the absurdity of how much time and energy has been poured into a story about little more than a reporter being jostled by a campaign staffer, something that happens literally everyday at every campaign rally in the entire history of political campaigns.
