(Conservative Tribune) – President Barack Obama met with a world leader for a lunch date that was supposed to be a friendly affair, but Obama managed to complete disgrace Americans. Again.
Obama met with the king of Saudi Arabia in Riyadh to discuss counter-terrorism efforts and the threat of ISIS. This came after new information that appears to connect the Arab nation to the Sept. 11 attacks.
It also came after officials revealed that the flight certificate of Al Qaeda bomb maker Ghassan Al- Shari was discovered hidden in an envelope from the Saudi embassy in Washington when they arrested him in 2002.
In addition to that, there has been mounting pressure on President Obama here in the states to declassify a 28-page section of a congressional report that many believe will point to Saudi involvement in the 2001 plane hijackings that caused nearly 3,000 to lose their lives and started the War on Terror, in which many others died.
Al-Sharbi, the Al Qaeda bomb maker, was believed to have learned how to fly with the 9/11 hijackers, but did not take part in the attacks. Shortly before his arrest, he buried a bundle of documents believed to include the flight certificate.
All of this should have come to a head when Obama met with king, but instead was greeted by Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdelaziz Al Saud, the governor of Riyadh, instead of the king himself.
Saudi state television did not immediately air Obama’s arrival, which is unusual, considering that Saudi State TV showed King Salman greeting other senior officials from Gulf nations arriving for the Gulf Cooperation Council summit.
Apparently, the brush off was a message that the Saudis have little faith in President Obama. Mustaf Alani, a security analyst at the Gulf Research Center, said of the decision to send a lower ranking official to Obama’s meeting that it was to strengthen that message.
“He will find a leadership that’s not ready to believe him,” Alani said. “The Saudis had disagreements with previous presidents. Here you have deep distrust that the president won’t deliver anything.”
Obama eventually was able to meet with King Salman, but it was just a quick exchange of “gratitude” from both parties, with Obama stating, “‘The American people send their greetings and we are very grateful for your hospitality, not just for this meeting but for hosting the GCC-U.S. summit that’s taking place tomorrow.”
Salman returned the thanks with, “The feeling is mutual between us and the American people.”
