(Conservative Tribune) – Though they have butted heads a time or two in some momentarily tense interviews, Fox News host Bill O’Reilly and billionaire businessman Donald Trump have maintained a rather friendly relationship throughout this presidential campaign primary season.
O’Reilly, who nevertheless tries to maintain his objectivity regarding Trump, was speaking this week about the front-running GOP candidate with Fox Business host Lou Dobbs, who is an admitted supporter of the reality-television-star-turned-turned-politician.
After discussing the assertion by Dobbs that Trump would not only win the nomination, but also see the party rally around him in the general election, O’Reilly ended the segment with a somewhat stunning pronouncement.
“Donald Trump is the best political story — by best I mean the most important political story — of my lifetime,” O’Reilly stated.
He then admitted that the assassination of President John F. Kennedy probably ranked higher, but not by much.
While some have mockingly compared O’Reilly’s statement to the 2008 gushing from MSNBC’s Chris Matthewsregarding the “thrill” up his leg from President Barack Obama, there is actually an element of truth to what O’Reilly said.
Despise him or adore him, there is no question that Donald Trump has completely upended the entire political system, from changing the way in which candidates campaign to exposing the at-times complicated and insider-friendly state-level political processes, to demolishing limits on what is considered acceptable political discourse … The list is seemingly endless.
Some may say these changes have ruined the formerly stodgy and mild-mannered political process going forward, while others have embraced the seemingly wild free-for-all that has developed.
Regardless of where one stands in a personal or political opinion of Trump, it is impossible to deny that his candidacy and campaign will have left an indelible mark on the entire process by the time he is finished, and that is an incredibly important story to be sure.
