Here are the basic facts: “Australia: Armed man smashes windows at Melbourne cafe, calls himself ‘messiah of Islam’ [VIDEO],” by Mugdha Variyar, International Business Times, October 27, 2015 10:16 IST
A man armed with a knife and a meat cleaver created havoc at a cafe in Melbourne, Australia on Tuesday, in a chilling reminder of the Lindt cafe siege in Sydney last December,.The man, who called himself “messiah of Islam”, smashed windows at the La Trobe St cafe in Melbourne, scaring customers before moving to a restaurant on the first floor of the building….
Last night, Pamela Geller posted a story about it from Au.News, containing this detail: “The man has since claimed to be a ‘messiah of Islam’ and called out for his mother.” However, the story has since been altered, so that the link in Pamela Geller’s post now goes to an article entitled, “Man who held up Melbourne restaurant with meat cleaver called himself ‘The Messiah.'” The article itself now does not mention the fact that he called himself “messiah of Islam,” and now says only this:
As he ranted and raved, the accused could be heard calling for his mother. He also referred to himself as ‘The Messiah’.Police believed the incident was not religious or politically motivated.
Of course it wasn’t! Especially when the media is busy covering up any evidence that it was. The Agedoesn’t mention his “messiah of Islam” statement at all; its story has this: “Acting Senior Sergeant Tanner refused to comment on the man’s motive, and said the matter was being treated as a mental health issue. ‘He appeared to be suffering some form of mental health episode,’ he said.” The Sydney Morning Herald carries the same quote.
We know from long experience that the mainstream media all over the Western world is extremely reluctant to publish anything that reflects poorly on Islam or Muslims, but this is taking that bias a step further. Now the media is actively covering up the facts so as to avoid giving us the idea that anything is amiss with Islam. Maybe this fellow really is deranged and that is all there is to it, but the fact that his derangement manifests itself at least in part in an identification with Islam is something that the Australian public needs to know, and ponder. The chief lesson that emerges from this episode instead is that the Australian mainstream media, like that in the U.S. and Europe, definitively cannot be trusted.
