EXPOSED: Lead Investigator of VA Scandal BOMBSHELLS Hillary With Brutal 10-Word Slam
(National Review) – Hillary Clinton’s suggestion that Republicans have exaggerated the failings of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) drew a sharp rebuke today from the lead House investigator of the department’s deficiencies.
Whistleblowers revealed last year that VA officials “were cooking the books” to obscure the time that veterans had to wait to get treatment, leading to an internal audit that found dozens of patients had died without receiving care.
The scandal led to the resignation of VA Secretary Eric Shinseki, but the cabinet agency’s problems have persisted. “Veterans who are seeking care for everything from post-traumatic stress disorder to cancer may face even longer wait times in the coming years for help from the overburdened Department of Veterans Affairs, according to a highly critical 4,000-page VA-commissioned study of veterans health care,” the Washington Post reported last month. “The report finds that VA facilities cost twice the normal amount for public facilities, a claim that is likely to reignite a debate about moving toward privatizing some VA services. The findings also contradict the department’s claim that most patients are satisfied with the care they receive.”
But Clinton downplayed the scandal while talking to MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow on Friday.“It’s not been as widespread as it has been made out to be,” she said. “[Republicans] want it to fail, so then [they] can argue for privatization.”
#share#That drew a sharp response from the congressman charged with leading an investigation into the VA’s failures. “The VA scandal was caused by dishonest bureaucrats who chose to whitewash the department’s problems rather than solve them,” House Veterans Affairs Committee chairman Jeff Miller (R., Fla.) said Monday. “Those who repeat that same shameful pattern of behavior are only shortchanging veterans while giving failed VA bureaucrats cover for continued malfeasance.”
Miller didn’t mention Clinton by name, but his remarks were a clear shot at the Democratic front-runner. “There is simply no denying that the problems at the Department of Veterans Affairs are indeed widespread,” he said. “Anyone who would claim the opposite simply isn’t paying attention.”
