IT’S OVER— Anti-Trump Republicans Stop Funding Ads Against Front-Runner

IT’S OVER— Anti-Trump Republicans Stop Funding Ads Against Front-Runner

(Conservative Tribune) – As billionaire businessman and presidential candidate Donald Trump seems to be marching inexorably closer to the GOP nomination, one would think that the anti-Trump wing of the Republican party would be firing at him with everything they’ve got.
However, it appears instead that many of the big money donors behind the various super PACs aligned against Trump are holding their fire by withholding donations being sought to fund attack ad campaigns, according to Politico.
Some of the anti-Trump super PACs have found that the big money donors have closed their checkbooks, at least for the time being, and other groups with deeper pockets, such as the Koch brothers network and Karl Rove’s Crossroads USA super PAC, have been spending that money attacking Democrats instead of their fellow Republicans.

It would seem that many donors have determined that their money would be wasted in more fruitless attacks on Donald Trump, while others are afraid that Trump will launch counterattacks at them if they fire first.
Still others may have realized that more attack ads aimed at Trump would only play into the Democrat’s hands in the general election if and when The Donald earns the GOP nomination.
Of course, there are a few organizations that are still determined to derail Trump, such as the anti-tax Club for Growth and the Our Principles super PAC, both of which continue to aggressively attack the real estate mogul over his formerly liberal positions and blunt rhetoric.
“There are a lot of donors who would like to do more, but they are going to have to regroup and find out what message works. Every time you go against him, it just makes him stronger,” said Frayda Levin, a board member and donor for the Club for Growth.
“We would totally donate to you if we could do it anonymously; we’re worried about Trump taking reprisals against us for donating to this,” said Liz Mair of the anti-Trump Make America Awesome super PAC regarding the responses she has received from reluctant donors.
It is worth noting that there remains a lot of big money from well-heeled donors sitting on the sidelines, but it remains to be seen if that money will go toward attacking Trump or be held in reserve for taking down the eventual Democrat nominee.
Should these donors and super PACs continue to sit on their money, it would appear that there is likely only smooth sailing ahead for the businessman for the remainder of the GOP primary season.
