Bernie Sanders Raises Money at Faster Pace Than Obama in ’08
(Newsmsax) – Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont raised more than $24 million over the last three months as he wages a populist challenge to become the Democratic presidential nominee, The New York Times reported on Wednesday.
Sanders’ advisers, in announcing the fund-raising tally on Wednesday night with several hours to go before the end of the quarter, also said the senator had more than $25 million in cash on hand, the Times said.
The Times reported that at his current pace, Sanders was doing better then then-Sen Barack Obama was in 2007.
“Sanders’s haul of more than $24 million for the third quarter of 2015: Mr. Obama raised $20.2 million for the third quarter of 2007, and Mrs. Clinton raised $23.5 million in that same period, according to the Campaign Finance Institute,” the Times wrote.
Meanwhile, Sanders’ opponent, former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, is expected to announce her fund-raising numbers soon. As of late June, the close of the second quarter, Clinton had $28.9 million in cash on hand compared to $12.2 million for Sanders, the Times reported.
Clinton had been raising money far more aggressively than Sanders, holding 10 times as many events with donors — many of whom contribute the $2,700 maximum to her primary campaign account.
