Jindal: Supreme Court Not Reading Constitution – or Dictionary

JUNE 28, 2015 2:43 PM
(Newsmax) – Two landmark Supreme Court decisions handed down last week show the majority of justices aren’t applying the Constitution or common definitions, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said Sunday.
Appearing on ”Meet the Press,”  the GOP presidential candidate noted that in the Friday ruling making same-sex marriage legal nationwide, Chief Justice John Roberts dissented, writing that the ruling was not based on the Constitution. Justice Antonin Scalia wrote one day earlier in his dissent on Obamacare subsidies that words no longer have meaning.
“You now have a court that’s not reading the Constitution, not reading the dictionary,” Jindal said.
Jindal’s is the only state that has yet to issue a marriage license to a same-sex couple since the Friday ruling. Jindal said that while he disagrees with the ruling, his state has no choice but to comply.
The next fight, he said, is in the federal government forcing Christian individuals, businesses, pastors and churches to participate in wedding ceremonies that violate their sincerely-held religious beliefs.
“The left wants to silence us. Hillary Clinton wants to silence us,” he said. “We’re not going away.”
Jindal was asked about his own unpopularity in his home state just as he undertakes a White House bid. Jindal pointed to success in increasing private job growth during his tenure, while cutting the number of state employees.
“When you do that, you’ll make the big government people unhappy,” he said.
